Former SEBA President, Jim “Duck” Adkins conducts banjo workshop Saturday, August 23, 2008 along with former SEBA Board member Brad Laird (Mandolin) and Dave Ellis (fiddle) as part of the 5th Annual Cliff Valley Bluegrass Festival at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA). Their band, Cedar Hill, headlines the show later that evening.

Adkins, active in SEBA since the beginning serving as President in 1986, gave his first SEBA bluegrass lecture that year, and has been teaching banjo, conducting workshops, and performing for over 30 years.

Laird, also known as “Ranger” Brad, for having actually been a forest ranger, first served in 1984 as a SEBA Breakdown Staff member when monthly meetings were held on 2nd Sundays at the Ramada Inn on Delk Road in Marietta. Laird has his own “Mando University” web site, has written four books on the mandolin, and plays in several SEBA member bands.

Diamond Dave Ellis has been fiddling for 25 years, plays all five traditional bluegrass instruments, including dobro and took his first banjo lesson from Jim Adkins when he was 14.

The UUCA is conveniently located at North Druid Hills and I-85.
