About Flatpickin', Inc.
Flat Pickin’ Inc
Flat Pickin’ Inc is a group of five friends with wide tastes in music, but
they have found that Bluegrass is a place to come together for fun,
relaxation and friendship. The band was formed in 2006.
Paige Garwood, Alaskan born and leader of the band, is also a fine music
teacher. Paige holds down the Bass for the band. He teaches Guitar and
Bass to students of all ages. He also runs a music camp each summer in
which he provides a hands-on experience for his students. Having made many
friends in the music industry, he usually has guest artists from the
Country, Jazz, Rock or other genres to inspire and teach his campers in
some finer points of being a musician.
Terry Austin, an auto painter by profession, has been playing music
locally and in Nashville most of his life. Terry provides fine guitar work
for the band. He and Paige have collaborated on several original songs for
the band. He also loves country music and if coaxed will bring out Marty
or Willie to sing a few bars of some old standards.
Leslie Crum, school teacher extraordinaire, sings with enthusiasm and
skill. Leslie has been in as many as three bands at one time. Her clear
and powerful voice brings a special quality and feel to such songs as “Oh
Atlanta”. Leslie, while single, loves her extended family. You will
usually see her sisters or nephews with her when she is out jammin’.
Shane Welch, newest member of the band, is a cabinet maker. He also enjoys
building guitars. Shane loves Bluegrass and has been focusing on learning
to play the mandolin. He has played guitar in several bands over the years
and adds some solid rhythm and a pretty face for the band.
Dane Avery is a professional handyman and minister of the Gospel. He has
been a mandolin player wanna-be for years. He loves traditional Bluegrass
and Gospel. Dane also plays the guitar and cross-harp. You might see him
any place that Bluegrass is being played. Dane believes his greatest
accomplishment in life has been fathering five fabulous and musically
talented children who love the Lord.
